Curated by Claudia Pretelin, PhD, Instruments of Memory presents artistic work that investigates materiality in relation to history, place, time, and remembrance. This exhibition features new and recent work by four artists based in Los Angeles, California: Dana Funaro, B. Neimeth, Aneesa Shami, and Patricia Yossen. With practices spanning ceramics, painting, photography, fiber art, and sound, the artists investigate how places, landscapes, remains, and objects produce and affect identity and how memory is linked to the tactile and intuitive qualities of the materials.
An extension of the Instruments of Memory site, which began as an online project documenting the work of women in the arts, IoM is a growing community that seeks to promote the work of women from different latitudes through in-depth conversations, exhibitions, and programming with different community partners.

Undying Lineage is a family of monolithic sculptures of brushed copper, natural patina and rock salt. These ephemeral works, lived in different stages of their oxidation processes, revealing patinas indicative of a vibrant life. The works were installed on Tongva land in the Verduga Mountains in celebration of the debut of Kendra Adler’s film, Story of the Stone.
A very special thank you to Carmen Sandoval, Indigenous Chumash wisdom keeper, and geologist Nicole E. Moore for your knowledge, and artists Phoenix Losavio and Francesca Mariano for your sounds and visions.

Flux is a series of intimate works on paper made for the exhibition, The Space Between Us, curated by Karla Aguiñiga. Creating patterns and impressions by way of magnetic field, Flux further probes the balance of control and chance, utilizing the corrosion of metals to explore themes of time, memory, alternate realities, wounds and healing, finding that loss, growth and transformation leave behind impressions that are powerfully symbolic.
